Project name:

Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel

Project description:

On the 7th Floor rooftop external space adjacent the childrens ward, an external play area was created at 19.5m long x 9.5m wide x 5.1m high in the theme of an enchanted forest. After a suspended timber and steel composite floor was built for the forest ground with planters and seating, the forest canopy walk through was created by a double curving timber lamella grid in part covered by a fabric canvas supported upon round laminated timber columns giving the appearance of tree trunks at the end of which was a timber two storey tree house clad in cedar shingles. All components were prefabricated off site and taken to the roof top via a service lift.
